Why I’m Switching to JavaScript
Until recently, I wanted to become a professional Android Developer. I learned the basics and wrote a few apps using Java. However, a recent job search convinced me to do things differently.
I barely found any Android Developer jobs compared to front-end and cross-platform developers. On top of that, the Android jobs I found required experience in Kotlin instead of Java. Not knowing much about front-end development, I did some research.
As it turns out, front-end development involves building the interface and basic functionality for applications. Take for instance, a to-do list application. Adding various buttons and functions for interacting with the lists would fall under the umbrella of front-end development. Up until now, I’ve done front-end development using Java. But it’s time to branch out.
Learning JavaScript would help me expand beyond Android and continue creating apps for iOS, and the web. I will continue to write applications for Android while growing my skill set for new environments.
